Common Questions Answers Before You Book a Survey
Got questions about EWI or silicone rendering? We’ve compiled the answers to help you make an informed decision for your property.
How much does external wall insulation cost in Coventry?
As a guide: £10,000 to £14,000 for a mid-terrace, £14,000 to £18,000 for a semi-detached and £18,000 to £24,000 for a detached house, at 0% VAT, because energy-saving materials are zero-rated until 31 March 2027.
Scaffolding, and any repositioning of gutters, downpipes and sills, is itemised separately on your quote rather than buried in a square-metre rate. Silicone rendering without insulation is standard-rated at 20% VAT.
Full breakdown on our external wall insulation page. Every quote is fixed and in writing after a free survey.
Do I need insulation, or just render?
Render protects the wall and changes how the house looks. It does not insulate – that is a separate job.
If your walls are solid brick and the rooms are cold, insulation is what you want. If the walls are already insulated, or the house is warm enough and you simply want it protected and looking better, render on its own does the job. We tell you which at the survey rather than selling you the larger one.
Do I need to visit your Exhall office, or will you come to me?
We come to you. The free survey is always at your property – we measure, take photos and go through the options on site.
The Exhall office is there if you want to see render samples and colour references in person. Please book ahead; the team is usually out on site.
What happens at the free survey?
We look at the wall build-up, check the condition of any existing render, measure the elevations and look for the things that destroy a new system – blocked gutters, cracked sills, a bridged damp-proof course. We also check clearances where the wall sits close to a boundary or a pavement.
You get a fixed written quote within 3 to 7 days, with the system name, board thickness and target U-value stated. There is no charge and no obligation.
How quickly can you start?
Lead times vary by season. Typically 2 to 6 weeks from quote acceptance in spring and summer, often sooner in winter.
We survey within about 7 days of your enquiry. Installation itself is usually 2 to 4 weeks, or up to 20 working days on larger detached homes.
How far from Coventry do you travel?
Our Exhall team covers a 70-mile radius – Nuneaton, Bedworth, Rugby, Warwick, Leamington Spa, Hinckley, Lutterworth, Leicester, Market Harborough, Birmingham, Solihull, Wolverhampton, Worcester, Telford, Nottingham, Derby, Northampton, Daventry, Wellingborough and the towns between them.
Greater London projects are handled by our London team. If you are not sure whether we reach you, send us your postcode and we will tell you straight away.
Are you registered and insured?
Yes. PD Rendering Ltd is TrustMark registered under licence 3752723, and we install Ceresit systems covered by BBA Certificate 14/5142. Every installation carries a 25-year insurance-backed guarantee on materials and workmanship.
Company registration number 09326724, registered at Unit L, 34 Bayton Road, Exhall, Coventry CV7 9EJ.
Who actually carries out the work?
Our own teams, on every job. We do not use subcontracted labour, which is why the same names come up again and again in our reviews.
You will have a point of contact from survey to sign-off, and we walk the elevations with you in daylight before the scaffolding comes down.
Do you work on commercial buildings as well as houses?
For independent, non-commercial guidance on wall insulation, the Energy Saving Trust is a good starting point.
