Do I Need Wall Rendering Repairs on My Building?
Four signs usually mean yes: cracks wider than a hairline, render that sounds hollow when you tap it, bare insulation or mesh showing through, or damp patches appearing inside on the same wall.
Caught early, most of these are a patch repair. Left for a few winters, water works its way behind the render, the damage spreads across the elevation, and the repair becomes a full strip and re-render.
Minor Damage & Patch Repairs:
Small cracks or missing patches let water into the wall behind. We offer efficient, low-cost patching to resolve minor issues before they cause serious damp problems.
EWI & Insulation Maintenance:
If the render is damaged and you can see insulation or mesh underneath, it needs sealing before the next spell of wet weather. Exposed EPS breaks down in sunlight, and water getting behind the boards attacks the adhesive holding them to the wall. We strip back the failed area, refix and re-render.
Cleaning, Servicing & Fixings:
We provide specialist low-pressure cleaning for moss and algae, and can safely install fixings (like satellite dishes) without breaking through the render and letting water in.
Render rarely fails on its own. A blocked gutter, a cracked window sill or a bridged damp-proof course will destroy a new repair within a year, so we look for the source before we quote.

Energy-saving materials currently carry zero-rate VAT, so external wall insulation is charged at 0%. On a £15,000 project that is £750 you will not pay if the work is done before the deadline.
From April 2027 the rate moves to 5%.
Rendering without insulation does not qualify - it is standard-rated at 20%.

We visit, work out what caused the failure, and put the repair in writing. No obligation.
Colour & Texture Matching
We match the new render to the colour reference and grain of what is already on the wall. Render fades over the years, so a patch on an older elevation can still show – if that matters to you, we re-coat the whole elevation instead.
Cutting Out & Re-Rendering
We cut back to sound render, prime the area, apply a polymer-modified basecoat with reinforcing mesh bedded into it, then finish with a silicone topcoat.
Final Check & Clean-Up
We check the repair sheds water properly at the joints and edges, then leave the site as we found it – sheeting down, tools away, driveway swept.

Dealing with cracked render or damp walls can be stressful. We’ve compiled the answers you need to make informed decisions about restoring and protecting your property.
Can you patch a small crack, or do I need to re-render the whole wall?
We work this out during the survey. Isolated cracks in otherwise sound render can be cut out and filled, and that is usually the right call.
If the cracking runs across the elevation, or the render is “blowing” (detaching from the wall behind it), a patch will not hold – the render around it is already failing.
In that case replacing the render on the whole elevation costs less over time than repeating patch repairs.
Will the repaired patch perfectly match my existing wall colour?
We match the colour to the manufacturer’s reference for your existing finish and get as close as the original will allow.
However, because your existing facade has been exposed to UV rays and weathering, a 100% invisible repair is practically impossible with coloured render.
For a flawless, uniform look, we always recommend a full silicone render upgrade or recoating the entire elevation.
How do I know if my External Wall Insulation (EWI) is failing?
The most obvious signs are visible mesh, exposed insulation boards, or damp patches appearing on your interior walls.
If you notice any of these, it means the protective topcoat has failed, and water is compromising the thermal envelope.
Is it safe to pressure wash my house to remove green algae?
We strongly advise against DIY pressure washing. High-pressure jet washing can easily blast away the protective silicone layer or force water deep into the masonry.

How much does render repair typically cost?
Repair costs vary wildly depending on the extent of the damage, the type of existing render, and scaffolding requirements.

Water is coming through my walls. Will fixing the render cure penetrating damp?
Sometimes. Cracked or blown render is one of the common causes of penetrating damp, and if that is what is happening, repairing it will stop it.
But damp also comes from blocked gutters, a bridged damp-proof course, raised ground levels or failed pointing – and none of those are fixed by re-rendering.
That is why we look for the source before quoting. If the render is not the cause, we will tell you.
Where render is the problem, we repair it and finish with a hydrophobic silicone system, which sheds rainwater while still letting the wall dry outwards.
Do you offer guarantees on repair work?
While we use the highest-grade materials for all patch repairs and maintenance, we cannot guarantee the condition of the surrounding, older render that we did not install.
However, if you opt for a complete system replacement or full-elevation EWI re-installation, it comes backed by our comprehensive 25-year insurance-backed guarantee.
Can you fix old pebble dash or traditional sand and cement?
Yes. Traditional sand and cement is rigid and prone to cracking over time.
While we can patch it, the smartest long-term investment is often to strip the failing areas, reinforce the wall with an alkali-resistant fibreglass mesh, and apply a modern, flexible silicone thin-coat system.
How long do facade repairs take to complete?
Minor patch repairs, cleaning, and algae treatments can often be completed in 1 to 2 days.
Major restorations, such as stripping a failed EWI system and re-installing it, will typically take between 2 to 3 weeks, depending on the weather conditions.
Do I need planning permission for repairs or repainting?
Standard repairs, maintenance, and cleaning fall under Permitted Development and do not require planning permission.
If your property is listed, you will usually need listed building consent before any re-rendering, even in the same colour. In a Conservation Area, restrictions can apply to changes of finish or colour. We can point you in the right direction.
