Most houses can. Silicone render goes onto bare brick and blockwork, over sound existing render, and over pebbledash. The wall just has to be structurally sound and dry enough to take it, which we check at the free survey.
Where the old render has failed, we strip it back and start again rather than rendering over a problem.
Bare brick or blockwork
A first render finish on a house that has never been rendered, or on a new build or extension.
Failed sand-and-cement render
We strip cracked, hollow or blown traditional render and replace it with a flexible, polymer-modified system that moves with the building.
Pebbledash and old render
In most cases we take the old finish off first. Rendering over it is possible, but if the old render lets go it takes the new one with it – so that work comes without our guarantee. Stripping back costs a little more and is the only way we can stand behind the result.
Which Render is Right For Your House?
The right render depends on the wall underneath, how exposed the building is, and the look you want. We prioritise breathability on traditional solid-wall properties and impact resistance on modern builds.

Brick-Effect Render
Keeps the appearance of brickwork on a rendered wall. Chosen where the original look matters, or where a plain rendered finish would sit wrong on the street.

Lime Render
The traditional finish for older solid-wall and historic buildings. Lime is far more vapour-open than cement, so the wall dries outwards instead of trapping moisture behind a hard shell.

Often specified by conservation officers, where a cement-based render would not be permitted.

Whichever finish you choose, the system underneath is the same: a polymer-modified basecoat with alkali-resistant fibreglass mesh, then a primer, then the render. The mesh absorbs building movement – it is the layer that stops cracks starting.
We work with Ceresit systems throughout: CT74 silicone render and CT22 lime render. Both are through-coloured, so the colour runs through the render rather than sitting on top as paint – a chip or a scuff does not expose a different shade underneath.

A polymer-modified basecoat with alkali-resistant fibreglass mesh sits between the wall and the finish.

Where the existing render has failed, it comes off first. Sound surfaces are cleaned and stabilised before anything new goes on.

Expert Application
We apply the polymer-modified basecoat, embed the fibreglass mesh, prime the surface, then apply the silicone topcoat.

Before the scaffolding comes down we walk the elevations with you in daylight, when any variation in texture or colour shows and is still easy to put right.

How Much Does it Cost to Render a House?
Rendering a house across Coventry and the Midlands typically costs between £7,000 and £17,000, depending on the size of the property and the condition of the existing walls.

Render Only, or Render With Insulation?
Render protects the wall and changes how the house looks. It does not insulate – that is a separate job, and we will tell you honestly which one your property needs.

Both prices include the render finish – the difference buys the insulation layer underneath.
The render on top is the same either way. The gap is also smaller than it first looks: insulation is zero-rated for VAT until March 2027, while render on its own carries the standard 20%.
If your walls are already insulated, or the house is warm enough and you simply want it protected and looking better, render on its own does the job.

Do I need to install insulation (EWI) to get silicone render?
No. While high-performance silicone render is the perfect protective topcoat for External Wall Insulation, we also provide render-only services.
If your property already has cavity insulation or you want to upgrade your facade’s aesthetics and weatherproofing, a stand-alone thin-coat polymer system is an excellent choice.
Why choose silicone thin-coat render over traditional sand and cement?
Traditional sand and cement is rigid and absorbs water, so it cracks as the building moves and holds moisture in the wall.
Silicone render is flexible enough to move with the building, which is why it is far less prone to cracking.
It is also water-repellent but still vapour-open, so rain runs off while moisture inside the wall dries outwards. In practice that means a wall that stays cleaner for longer and needs far less upkeep than painted render.
Will silicone render stop penetrating damp?
It depends where the water is getting in.
If the damp comes from cracked, blown or porous render, replacing it with a silicone system usually solves it – the new render sheds water while still letting the wall dry outwards.
If the water is coming from failed guttering, a roof defect, pointing above the render line or rising damp, render will not fix it. We check for those at the survey and tell you before you commit.
Can you render over my existing render or pebbledash?
Usually we take it off first.
Rendering over an old finish is possible, but if the old layer lets go it takes the new render with it. Work done that way does not come with our guarantee.
Stripping back costs a little more up front and is the only way we can stand behind the result for 25 years.
How long does the house rendering process typically take?
The rendering itself takes around 6 working days on a 100m² house.
If the old render has to come off first, allow another 3 to 5 days. Including scaffolding going up and coming down, and time for the render to cure, most projects run 2 to 3 weeks from start to finish.
Is silicone render really "self-cleaning"?
Yes. High-quality silicone polymer finishes are naturally hydrophobic.
When it rains, water beads on the surface and washes away dirt, dust, and organic matter like algae.
This significantly reduces maintenance compared to traditional painted render, which requires frequent repainting.
Do I need planning permission to re-render my house?
In most cases, rendering your home falls under Permitted Development and does not require planning permission.
However, if your property is listed, is located in a conservation area, or the new render drastically changes the street’s aesthetic, permission may be required. We can advise you on this during our survey.
How do I choose the right colour and texture?

The choice depends on your property’s architectural style and personal taste. We provide physical sample boards and expert design advice so you can see the colour and the grain before anything goes on the wall
